The Ask

Volunteers of America Logo

In 2018, Volunteers of America (VOA) brought together a gathering of VOA-affiliate organizations offering Veterans’ services across the United States. VOA engaged Aging Dynamics to create and facilitate a dynamic visioning and design session. The goal was to learn about trends and changes in Veterans’ programming.

There were 23+ independent, non-profit affiliates across the country– all offering multiple services and housing for Veterans. This gathering contained profound subject matter expertise with an internal objective to encourage entrepreneurial interests. The internal team had a lot of enthusiasm to get creative, collaborate, and reinforce the leadership position of VOA as the second largest provider of Veterans Services.

Our Approach

Aging Dynamics designed a visioning session that was based on the Google model, applying concepts and practices from the for-profit sector. Aging Dynamics facilitated a day-long design sprint and idea competition which cultivated a dynamic learning environment and creative space to think of innovative solutions for the challenges identified in Veterans Services. We developed the agenda, designed the exercises, and led the group through a full day of activities with rich conversation and solid final outcomes.

The Following Year

In 2019, VOA Inc contracted Aging Dynamics once again. This time, we designed a two-day design sprint focused on Community Health. From the success of that design spring, VOA developed an internal incubator and launched at least one of the ideas created that day.
