CAPACITY BUILDING & TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE | PROGRAM DESIGN
The Ask
Dr. Maureen Walsh Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Exercise Department at Slippery Rock University engaged Aging Dynamics as she developed a new intergenerational program designed to bring university students and community-dwelling older adults together in meaningful ways. The goal was to create a program that fosters shared learning, strengthens connection across generations, and supports experiences that are inclusive and accessible for all participants.
Our Approach
Aging Dynamics provided consultation and guidance in creating the program, supporting the design of intergenerational experiences rooted in accessibility, curiosity, and relationship-building. The program taught the students how to engage in friendly conversation with someone of an older generation using curiosity as a way to connect. They did this through phone or video conversations and two in-person meetings in class. Each interaction was designed to help participants see the world through another’s eyes and strengthen connection through learning and dialogue.
